Tools:
[+] 1) Web Design - Good design gets you free placement on search engines and free eyeballs and traffic. Target your main and niche long-tail markets.
1. Web Design still sooooo important ( i.e. see what you can get for free from search engines)
2. Keywording Wordtracker is my provider of choice to find the best keywords. It allows me to find keywords that not only find your target markets but also that do not face so much competition.
[+]
----------------Keywords Positive and Negative
Negative Keywords
Positive Keywords
3. Site Map
4. Easy-to-follow ( for search engines AND people)
[+] 2) Email Marketing- still the most powerful method out there for immediate eyeballs. Constant Contact is my preferred provider.
1) Email Marketing is so powerful. Regular monthly newsletters are normally the best method and the best received by consumers.
2) Email database collection - make it grow! Don't let any inquiry go without collecting the email address to your database. Separate clients from prospects so you can market to them differently.
[+] 3) Social Web Marketing- growing fast!- but must be effective - so watch time vs. effectiveness carefully.
1. Blog creation
2. RSS feeds
3. Facebook pages
4. Article publishing
5. Youtube videos
[+] 4) Paid/Unpaid On-Line Advertising- on 3 main search engines: Google, Yahoo and Bing. The world on-line is simpler now that there are 3 major search engines - Google, Yahoo & Bing.
1. Unpaid Local Listings - Google, Bing, & Yahoo all offer local listings for free. Local is going to be more important given the number of people with iphones that triangulate users' locations. But for now - "claim: (on Google) and create local listings on all 3 major engines. It's obvious that the search engines will soon allow advertisers to differentiate themselves by paying and that the "free" part will change.
2. Unpaid Organic Listings - Well, that is the golden ring. When you design right, put up your local listing, you get top placement (i.e. first page listing) on Google. For free.
3. Paid Listings - on Google, Bing, Yahoo. Most people STILL don't know the difference between paid and organic search. If it's at the top, it's at the top, for them. So... if there are important keywords you can't get by good web design, great backlinks, or screaming and yelling, by all means, put up a paid search campaign. Use all engines - Bing & Yahoo are significantly cheaper to use. See where you get the most value for your $$. Create an ad budget. Use positive and negative keywords and watch your campaign closely.
[+] 5) Commericalizing Your Site: Adsense and Affiliate Marketing.
1. If and that's a big "if" it is appropriate for your business, Google's Adsense is a great way to make money. Adsense is a program where other sites advertise on YOUR site for a fee (if there is a "click"). The $$ is typically not huge, but nice, and you don't need to do anything but watch the money come in once it's set up.
2. Once your site receives 1,000 unique visitors/month, you should look into affiliate marketing, where you target specific advertisers and the return is greater. Google, Bing, & Yahoo all offer local listings for free.
[+] 6) Reporting
1. Report on keyword placement - Answers the question: What keywords did you get a high ranking for just by your great design? What keywords do you need to pay for? I use Webposition Gold for these reports.
2. Google Analytics -- A little piece of code on every page sends reports back to your Google account on all kinds of important things. How many people are coming to your site? Which pages do they go to? Where do they live? How do they get to your site, directly or via another site, like a paid ad? This list doesn't even begin to do justice to the information your Google Analytics account displays.
3. Paid Advertising Reports on Google (Adwords), Bing and Yahoo. How much am I spending? Are people clicking thru to my site from these ads? These reports must be looked at often to make sure you are getting all the bang for your buck.
[+]7) Pricing
1. Web Design - $900 flat for almost all sites.
2. Monthly Internet Marketing Charge - A monthly fee, depending on the number of marketing avenues you decide on. Average is $200-$400/month.
